Founded by motor-racing enthusiast Fred Prysquel in the summer of 1971, Vilebrequin (French for crankshaft) was launched on the shores of France’s most famous beach, St. Tropez. Inspired by local artists, seafaring tourists, and Old Hollywood, Vilebrequin swimsuits were an immediate success. The first Vilebrequin swim shorts were crafted from spinnaker sailcloth in vivid palettes, and that original aesthetic continues through the label today.
