ABOUT THE BRAND Artist Shepard Fairey made his mark with a 1989 street art campaign, which later evolved into Obey Giant iconography. With the phenomenon as its namesake, Obey was founded in 2001 as a way of translating Fairey’s work into fashion. The aesthetic is rooted in punk rock and skateboarding, but also includes references to pop culture, commercial marketing, and political messaging. Fairey experiments in cultural propaganda and continues to create for the sake of fun and observation. The medium may vary, but his work always sends a message.
